My firewall software wants me to authorize a TCP port. Is this safe?
Yes. The handheld and desktop portions of Abacalab's Chemistry Labacus® product need to communicate via a TCP port. This communication is entirely between your desktop computer and your handheld. No Internet connection or other information transfer is made to any other computer. Your firewall software may warn you about this communications process, and it must be allowed for the two parts of your product to communicate with each other.
The desktop software for my Labacus® wants me to enter a "License Authorization". How do I get one?
If you are evaluating a Labacus® or purchased one directly from Abacalab, you will automatically receive your license key by e-mail. If you have not, simply contact our support staff and we will get it to you promptly. If you purchased your Labacus® from a distributor, you will find a "License Key Code Card" in the box. Go to our license key request page and enter the information requested, and we will send you your license key.
The demo copy I have been using just said it has expired. What do I do?
If you are using a downloaded demo, you can order a license key for the software-only Chemistry Labacus® package. This will give you access to the full functionality of the current version. If you are using a hardware evaluation loaner that was shipped to you from Abacalab or Chemglass, simply contact your sales representative to get a permanent license key for your Labacus®. If you need more time to evaluate the Labacus®, you can also contact us to request additional time for your evaluation.
I just installed a brand new demo version and it says it is expired. What is wrong?
This happened because the evaluation version installer you used was too old. Our installers have an expiration date built in to help us make sure that you are evaluating the latest (and greatest) version of the Chemistry Labacus® software to get the best impression of what it can do. Please download the installer for the most recent version.

What does the Labacus® do besides Chemistry?
The Chemistry Labacus® is also a full featured Personal Digital Assistant. It includes calendar, contacts list, e-mail, spreadsheet, word processing, and even a few games. It uses the standard Windows Mobile 5 operating system, so you can also add lots of other software to personalize it for your own needs and desires.
Who already uses the Labacus®?
Several large pharmaceutical companies, including Merck & Co., are using the Labacus®, and it has been adopted by chemists in other parts of industry as well as in government and academia.
When I get a Labacus® how long is the software license good for?
The Labacus® software is licensed perpetually: Once you have a license for a particular version, you are entitled to use it for as long as you wish. The Labacus® license keys have an expiration date: The keys apply to any version released before that date. This allows you to upgrade your Labacus® software without installing a new license key, for as long as you are entitled to automatic upgrades.
Is academic pricing available for the Labacus®?
Yes. We provide special pricing for chemists working in academia, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, professors and teaching staff at accredited colleges and universities.
Is it safe to order on the Web?
Yes. Our Web payments are processed through PayPal, and your detailed financial information is kept confidential by them, even from us. Any other personal information you submit on our Web page is covered by our privacy policy.
Is there academic pricing for students and academic professionals?

Is the Labacus® guaranteed?
Yes. We believe that the Labacus® is the best solution available to meet your calculation, note-taking and data lookup needs in the laboratory. We think you will, too. We are constantly working to improve the Labacus®, too, so if you don't see a particular feature you need on this page, please contact us - it may be scheduled for release soon! In any case, if you get a Labacus® and you find that it isn't useful for you, return it to us with an explanation and we will give you a refund.
Is there a free version?
Yes and no. There is no free fully-licensed version of the Labacus. However, we do provide free limited-time evaluations for you to try the Labacus before you decide to get a full license. If you already have a PDA running Windows Mobile, you can download an evaluation copy of the Labacus software. If you don't have compatible hardware, you can contact us to get a hardware Labacus unit loan for evaluation.
